Starting Tuesday after memorial day weekend, one day less than normal time permits to plan a perfect weekend warrior fish trip. By 10:00 Chris and I start pondering where were are going to hit up and slayfest for the weekend! We toss ideas back and forth threw lunch time and decided to make a phone call to the Summit County Ranger District to find out our first location of choice is still iced over! Strike #1....Back to the drawing board!
Wednesday rolls around and no weekend plans have been firmed up by now...On a 5 day weeks, a trip is set in stone, weather depending, by mid afternoon Tuesday. So the pressures on and we starting throwing around ideas and decide on our long lost dream of last fall. So, I call over at the Clear Creek Ranger District to inquire about a alpine lake to find out that "it's probably still iced over, the road is closed to Mt. Evens with 5 inches of fresh wet snow. Remember this is May 30th at 14,000+." So I check the NOAA.com website to find out for my self...Idea #2 done and over.
Thursday! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!!! Now were in a scramble, thankfully we have too many options we throw out the idea of fishing Grand County, though two weeks ago it was still closed. A phone call to the Grandby CO. Ranger District, confirmed that the road was now open and on a 2-0 count we finally hit jackpot!

Friday afternoon Chris and I roll out at about 5:30 and arrive at the trail head at 8:00. Where we planned on camping was about a mile from the trail head...For once we don't have to hike too far!!! Right before we got to our camp site we spotted the Moose in the pictures above. We ended up seeing him Sunday morning on our hike out but never saw him Saturday even though we knew he was lingering around after finding footprints and scat 30 feet from our tent! Cool and Scary at the same time! As for fishing we had a great time catching the spawning rainbows and a couple cutts. We C&R all fish so they could go make babies!
